REVIEW: Mary Mary "Go Get It" (Soundtrack)

The dynamic duet known as Mary Mary is hitting us with a taste of some treats on their
latest album release entitled Go Get It. Sisters, Erica and Tina Campbell have been
vocally blessing the gospel world with album after album of outstanding Contemporary
Christian music. Stellar, Grammy’s, Dove awards are just a few of the recording
accomplishments these women have received. The two have branched out the Mary
Mary name on television by sitting on as judges on the Sunday Best Gospel Talent Show
and most recently they have aired their own reality show. Busy is an understatement
when it comes to these women on the go. The show gives viewers a taste of how
stressful yet rewarding it is trying to balance family and career as Christians in this day
and age. A positive spin on this reality series is the Mary’s always keep God in their
plan while fuels them to push each other to create hits.

Go Get It - The album blows the doors open from jump with hard hitting snares and
a strong baseline. You hear the drive and passion in the vocals as the duo strongly
suggest that your blessing s out there and it’s up to you to go get it! The song will bring
confidence and a feeling of victory in anything you’re trying to succeed at.

God Bless (remix) – Heads will nod and you will be forced to sing the chorus along with
the 3 part harmony from the two Mary’s and producer Warryn Campbell. The group
takes time to asks Gods blessing on those that have been going through some ‘thangs’ or
may have been caught up in a situation. The song will get you to pick up the phone or
drop in on someone to spread some love.

Little Girl - An inspirational number for all young ladies that may struggle with
insecurities. The simple guitar riff and baseline accompanied by the Mary’s singing in a
lullaby –like tome makes this the perfect song for women, young or old to appreciate.

Dirt (remix) – More inspiration being spread! The words are simple yet powerful. Again
a guitar and synthesizer accompany the ladies as they let you know that we’re all human
and struggles (dirt) will come but the Lord will be there to wash us up and get us through
the rough times so we can grow and learn from the experiences. Fav’ line is during the
bridge “ Champions never except defeat they fall and get back on their feet b/c they know
that if you want to grow we all need a little bit of dirt to grow. We need a little rain to
wash our souls.”.

Can’t Give Up Now (remix) - One of the top vocally powerful songs on the album,
The ladies belt out one of the staple songs of Christian faith. They even put their own
Mary Mary twist on the end of the track to add a bit of contemporary flavor but keep it
respectful.

I’m Running (remix) – By any means necessary I will do what I need to in order to get
closer to the Lord is the theme of this contemporary track. The two give us classic
Mary Mary sound blended harmony flowing perfectly over great instrumentation. The
production near the end of the track picks up the pace and will leave you picturing the
ladies running to get closer to the Lords greatness.

Good To Me – A Mary Mary throwback with guests Destiny’s child is still sure to keep
you grooving. Heavy base line with a funky r&b groove lead the way as the groups
synchronize perfect pitch singing of Gods glory and how good He has been in their lives.

Sunday Morning - The off-beat production on this track sounds on point! There are
many things to do on a Sunday but the ladies express the joy they get from going to the
church house and praising the Lord for making it through the week.

He Said – Dark Child's hard hitting beats and funky baseline pounds its way throughout
the track on this earlier Mary Mary classic. Blending gospel and hip-hop work out well
as Fats and Dark Child lend their vocals on this radio friendly track,

And I - The duo team up with gospel great Kirk Franklin on this dramatic track. Heavy
stringed instrumentation takes the track to a different level. A smooth urban sound
accompanies their angelic vocals as the two express their devotion to God.

Walking - Another Favorite of mine is the Baby Dub track. Hard one-two beat and a
rhythmic chord keeps this track on repeat with many gospel playlists. Mary Mary keep
the vocals just as mellow and laid back as the track is but get the message across that
your walk is seen by many.

God In Me - One of the hottest songs off The Sound Album. The production on this hit
made this track fit perfectly with many radio/club hits at the time of its release. This was
a perfect blend of Gospel and groove for contemporary gospel lovers to nod their head to.

Shackles - An earlier hit for the divine duo was the final cut on this album to give
listeners a good idea of how Mary Mary has stayed true to their style of gospel. This
was one of their first tracks to open the eyes of many gospel lovers to Mary Mary's
vibe. Contemporary Christian flavor, tight production, powerful vocals and always
keeping God first in their music.
