REVIEW: Tim Bowman Jr. "Beautiful"

Native Michigan artists Tim Bowman Jr.  delivers a debut gospel album that doesn’t have a ‘rookie’ sound but is filled with musical experience.   It’s easy to see that Tim has been involved in the music industry in some form since youth as he shows maturity and a good understanding of how to create a solid album.   Through each track you hear a love and passion in his vocals screaming this was a God given talent and this album was something Tim Jr. was meant to give his listeners.  Musical influences such as his father, jazz musician Tim Bowman and years of singing in church have whipped young Bowman into shape and prepared him for his album, Beautiful.

Throw It Away - The album starts off in top gear with this high-energy track.  The production puts you right in the middle of a techno dance environment as Tim gives honor to God and shows his dedication to the Lord by claiming god has the key to his heart.  This song can easily fall into any radio line-up the way it is or be remixed to be a hot gospel dance track.

Free – Worship leaders, will love this one.  It’s easy for the crowd to repeat while the energy builds up and the Spirit is sure to runs free throughout the place.   So few words but so much meaning.  What starts out as a simple piano riff turns into this magnificent worship chant and with just a few words has a lot of meaning  “I live for You, I worship You.  You took my place, You gave me grace.  I live for You,  You died for me You set me free hey!!!  Free to worship.. Free to Praise  and free to shout the victory.

Sunday Morning – Every day is a good day to have God on your side but Tim and gospel great Dorinda Clark-Cole vocally go in on that one day when we all gather to praise and honor Gods greatness.  Sunday morning takes us home, Sunday morning revives and preps us for the rest of the crazy week ahead.   The song strongly states the desire we as Christians need to go home and find comfort for the soul from a good Sunday morning service.

Beautiful – Tim mellows the album out giving listeners this laid back, spiritual love song.  A simple guitar and personal lyrics from Bowman reflecting on the beauty that of God’s greatness.

Healer – this track is short and right to the point.  It honors  Jesus and gives the credit He is due by explaining on how only He can truly fix things in our lives when we need help.  Bowman humbly cries out to Jesus during the first verse then the production explodes into a up-tempo track  God  I believe that you are my healer, and I come to you Father I need you.  Jesus you’re all I need by your striped I are healed.

He Will – The first single from the album where Tim is joined by the great vocals sounds of Vickie Winans.  Both gospel artists bring their A-game while they want listeners to ‘know that they know that they know” that Jesus will take care of all their wants and needs.

Looking for Love –  this track mixes a gospel, reggae and a lil r&b flavor as Bowman rides the rhythm.  Tim shows he has a solid vocal range as he hits some well tones falsetto notes throughout the track.  This can easily be dropped in any radio rotation for major play and flow right with what is being played on urban stations today.

Promise – Where many people would get lost in the pop radio production Tim brings you back with tight lyrics and a strong harmonizing keeping you focused on the message of God keeping His promise of being able to do exactly what He says He will.

I’ll Try – The production fools you into thinking this is a laid back worship track and then bam!! He keeps it gospel but blends in a bit of rock/country.  A guitar solo as the bridge and he has another well blended hit.

Fell In Love – The smooth rhythm and gospel sound will make this a fav’ to many contemporary gospel lovers.   Bowman croons over this track giving us a solid tenor sound and shows his vocal versatility by flipping into falsetto every so often.

Running Back To You – Tim touches on the human side which we all can relate to.  We think we can handle things on our own and eventually we come running back to God for help.  The dramatic production seems to outweigh the vocals on this track but it’s chorus is catchy.

I’m Here – this r&b bounce track will bring comfort to all that are lacking faith or unsure that the Gods got your back.  The chorus gives you hope as Bowman let’s listeners know that Christ is always saying – “  I’m here all you gotta do is follow the light, know that I’m by your side.”

Abide With Me – The album closes with a traditional gospel song blended with contemporary style.  Tim gives the listeners his background of growing up in the church and not forgetting his past with a blend of hymnals and spirituals all blended with his vocal strength and a piano. It humbles the album and lets listeners know Bowman remembers where all his help comes from.
